In the global trade arena, various free online platforms provide trade statistics (imports, exports, tariff info, trends) alongside business directories for lead generation. Below we organize these tools into categories and highlight those that combine trade data with company contact information. All listed platforms are free to use (some may require free registration) and allow filtering by country.

Integrated Trade & Company Data Tools (Trade Stats + B2B Contacts)

  • Global Trade Helpdesk (ITC/WTO/UNCTAD) – A free multi-agency portal offering trade data (import/export values, trends), market access info (tariffs, regulations), and even lists of potential buyers per product/country[1]. Users can select a target country and product to see import statistics, relevant tariffs, and major importing firms. Coverage: Registration: Not required (free access).
  • TradeAtlas – A “one-stop” global trade database that integrates actual shipment data with company information. It provides company-level importers and exporters data worldwide (over 25 million importers, 19 million exporters) derived from bills of lading and customs records[2][3]. This allows searching by HS code or product to find real overseas buyers/suppliers and view their import/export volumes. Coverage: 230 countries[4]. Registration: Yes (free sign-up required for basic access[5]).
  • ImportYeti – A free web tool that mines S. import customs records (~70 million shipment records) to help identify suppliers and supply chain connections[6]. By entering a company or product, users can see which foreign suppliers a U.S. company uses (and vice versa), effectively uncovering leads based on actual trade shipments. Note: Primarily focuses on U.S. sea freight data (with some data on Mexico), but it reveals global manufacturers exporting to the U.S. Coverage: Global suppliers via U.S. import data. Registration: Not required (open free search).

Free Trade Statistics Portals (Macro Trade Data)

  • World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS) – A World Bank portal consolidating trade stats from multiple sources (UN Comtrade for trade flows, UNCTAD TRAINS for tariffs/NTMs, WTO, etc.)[7]. Users can query import/export values by country, product (HS code), year, and get tariff rates and even run simple tariff impact simulations. Coverage: Global (200+ countries). Data Offered: Trade volumes, tariffs, trade indicators. Registration: Yes (free, required to access detailed query tools)[8]. Note: No company-level contacts (macro-level data only).
  • WTO Data Portal – The WTO’s open data interface for global trade statistics. It provides merchandise trade and services data, tariff schedules, and non-tariff measures, with filters by country, product category, and year[9]. All information is free to access for anyone (no subscription)[10]. Coverage: Global (all WTO members and observers). Data: Trade values, growth rates, tariff bindings/applied rates. Registration: Not required.
  • UN Comtrade – The United Nations Commodity Trade Database, widely regarded as the most comprehensive global trade dataset (200+ countries, 1+ billion records)[11]. Users can retrieve import/export statistics by product and partner country, on annual or monthly basis. It’s excellent for analyzing market size and trade trends[11]. Coverage: Global (since 1962). Data: Trade values/quantities by HS code and country. Registration: Not required for manual queries (free download of aggregated data; a free API key is available for large queries[12]).
  • EU Access2Markets (EU Trade Portal) – A free portal by the European Commission (successor to the EU Export Helpdesk) focusing on market access. It provides tariff and VAT rates, rules of origin, and trade requirements for exporting to/importing from EU and many partner countries. Coverage: EU and partner countries. Data: Tariffs, taxes, import procedures, some trade stats. Registration: Not required. (No company directory included.)

These trade data portals are valuable for market research and trend analysis across countries. However, they lack company contact information – you would need to identify specific importers or exporters through other means or tools.

Free B2B Directories and Marketplaces (Company Listings)

  • Global Buyers Online – A free international B2B bulletin board that posts trade leads and “buy offers” from importers worldwide. It lists over 100,000+ buying requirements from buyers in 210 countries across various industries[13]. Exporters can browse by country or category to find potential buyers and their requests (e.g. product needed, quantity). Data: Trade leads and basic buyer info/contacts. Coverage: Global (210+ countries)[13]. Registration: Not required to browse (free signup if you want to post your own offers).
  • com – The world’s largest online B2B marketplace with millions of suppliers and buyers in over 200 countries[14]. Alibaba features a vast company directory and product catalog, where you can filter suppliers by country and product category. It’s geared toward lead generation: you can find exporters/manufacturers and see their profiles (product range, certifications, transaction history). Data: Supplier directories, product listings, some trade volume indicators (e.g. export volume categories). Coverage: Global (extensive, with strength in China/Asia). Registration: Optional for searching (free account needed to contact suppliers).
  • Kompass – A global business directory spanning 70+ countries with nearly 4 million company listings[15]. Companies are classified by detailed industry categories, making it easy to find potential distributors or clients by product/service. Data: Company profiles with contact details (address, phone, etc.) are available at the free level[15], while advanced insights (e.g. company financials or detailed firmographic data) require a paid plan. Coverage: Global (with local directory editions in many countries)[15]. Registration: Not required to search (basic contact info is free; creating a free login can unlock certain features).
  • Global Sources – A B2B sourcing platform focused on connecting international buyers with Asian (especially Chinese) suppliers. It provides a searchable directory of products and manufacturers and offers free email product alerts[16]. Coverage: Global (focus on Asia). Data: Supplier directory, product catalogs. Registration: Not required to search (free signup for extra services).
  • Other Free Directories: Many other free B2B portals exist, such as Go4WorldBusiness (global leads, with free search and paid tiers)[17], TradeIndia/IndiaMART (India-focused exporter directories)[18], EC21, ECPlaza, ECVV (global marketplaces with a focus on Asia)[19][20], and ThomasNet (USA-focused industrial supplier directory). These allow filtering by country or category and can be useful for lead generation; however, they typically do not provide trade statistics – they focus on company information and product listings. All have free access (some require free registration to view full details or to contact partners).

Summary of Free Trade & B2B Platforms

Each of these platforms can help identify international market opportunities at no cost. For comprehensive use, you might combine a trade stats tool (to find top markets and import volumes) with a B2B directory (to find specific company leads in those markets). This approach leverages free resources to build an export strategy without the need for paid subscriptions[21]. Always verify any lead you find, and consider that while the data is free, some platforms may have limits on depth of information (e.g. requiring upgrades for detailed company reports or very granular trade data)[15][21]. However, the above-listed tools should provide an excellent starting point for trade research and lead generation at zero cost.
